Babies and young children sometimes get middle ear infections (otitis media). The most common symptoms are earache and fever. Infections can be painful, but usually do not last very long. If the infection is serious, you will need to visit a doctor. Some middle ear infections lead to glue ear, when thick fluid in the middle ear causes slight temporary deafness.
